The Radio Times Guide to Science Fiction:

Featuring a very early screen appearance by Don Johnson, this film remains one of his best. He's actually not particularly brilliant in it as he is upstaged by his canine co-star, but this offbeat sci-fi comedy has deservedly become a cult favourite. Set in a post-apocalypic world, the story follows the adventures of Johnson and his super intelligent dog when they get mixed up with a strange subterranean community, unable to reproduce sexually. Director L Q Jones (best known as a western character actor) works wonders with a tiny budget and maintains a pleasingly black tone throughout.
