I am unsure whether this was written after the series as a tie-in, or if this was the "first draft" and the series was based on the book. It is very different in tone and content and covers the first three or four episodes on the TV series, but ends very differently.

Many of the characters are the same - in fact all the main characters - but a few of the minor characters have been changed in the TV series. This is fine but when this book is read and followed by Genesis of a Hero (the sequel), a number of minor characters suddenly become much more important and if you think too much of the TV series then this could be confusing.

Overall - an excellent book and one of my all-time favourites of the genre
